This course suits those who have completed NVQ Level 1 or who
already have food preparation skills.
What will I study?
This course explores food preparation, cooking and food and
drink service. Students are expected to work on events and
functions, both inside and outside the college, often with high
profile visitors present. Students work towards a number of
important awards: VRQ level 2 Professional Cookery
and VRQ level 2 Food and Drink Service along side key skills
certificates. The hospitality school has CoVE status and has won
two prestigious national awards: Hospitality Assured and the Beacon
Award.

This can lead to the Advanced Chef's Diploma NVQ Level 3 Food
Preparation and Cooking and kitchen work as a Senior Commis Chef
and other work in the food service sector.

You will need to attend an interview and take a short test.
Applicants should also have GCSE English and maths A-C or
equivalent, and possess some chef skills and knowledge, and may
also need the Chef's Diploma Stage 1.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by a portfolio of evidence, practical observation
and question and answer sessions. Students meet regularly with
tutors to help plan studies and discuss progress.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
