What will I study?
A good deal of emphasis is placed on practical work, which is integrated with theory at all stages of the course. For AS you will study three units which include structure, bonding and main group chemistry. There will also be an introduction into organic chemistry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and industrial chemistry. For A2 these themes are developed to a higher level in a further three units.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
There are six units altogether making up the Chemistry A Level.

How will I be assessed?
For AS there are two written exams (one for each unit) and a series of internal practical assessments. For A2 there are two written exams and a coursework component similar to that for the AS year.

What can I do afterwards?
A good number of our students go on to study chemistry or biochemistry at university. You will find chemistry an essential pre-requisite for degree course entry in medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering and biology. The course also provides a good basis for careers as diverse as nutrition, forensic science, archaeology and geology.

Are there any additional costs involved?
