About this course
You will have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C. At least THREE must be from : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths. Alternatively you will have a DISTINCTION in a Level 2 Diploma OR an NVQ2 OR a CACHE Cert.

Child Care and Education Diploma - Level 3
The Level 3 Child Care and Education qualification covers the development of children from birth to 16. It's wide range of option units gives you many ways to expand your career.
What does the course involve?
The course consists of 3 days of study in college and, as practical workplacements are an integral part of the course, you will spend 2 days in child care and educational settings. You will learn about children's growth and development, how to care for and educate children, about about working with their parents and other professionals.
What will I study?
For the Diploma qualification: You must achieve Units 1-5 PLUS Units 6-9 AND 3 option Units. The option Units will be chosen by the Course Leader who will select the subjects that match the skills required for finding work in your area.
Unit 6 - Promoting a Health Environment for Children. Unit 7 - Play and Learning in Children's Education. Unit 8 - Caring for Children. Unit 9 - Development of Professional Skills within Children's Education.

How does the qualification work?
The qualification is divided into three stages - The Award, the Certificate and the Diploma. Most people start of by taking the Award then progress to the Certificate before completing the Diploma, which enables them to work as an Early Years Practitioner.

How long does the course take to complete?
It takes 2 years of full-time study to gain the full Diploma.
Do I need a work placement?
Yes, you and your tutor will arrange suitable placements which are required to achieve Unit 9, the Development of Professional Skills within Children's Education.
What can I do when I have my Diploma?
You can work as an Early Years Practitioner, either as an assistant or manager, in a number of settings. Move into areas such as children's nursing, general nursing and midwifery. Enter university. Continue study on a Foundation Degree or to achieve Professional Status once you have gained some experience in the workplace.
