This award is for the paralegal working in their particular department in Legal Practice, Commerce, Industry or the Public Sector department doing work of a specialised or semi-specialised nature. The Fellowship Award means that a paralegal can further add to their specialist knowledge in that particular area of law and/or practice in which they are involved.
Syllabus
The necessity for The Children Act; The main messages of the Act; Local Authorities powers duties and responsibilities
Children and the Courts: Appropriate use of child assessment order; care or supervision order; education supervision order; emergency protection order; settling arrangements for children
Children and Young people living away from their parents:providing accommodation; residence orders and foster-parents; adoption proceedings; contact; considerations of race, culture, religion and language; complaints procedures
The new range of Court Orders: Parental responsibility; Section 8 Orders, Family Assistance Orders, Orders under Part IV; child's wishes and feelings
Children in the Community; Duties to provide services, complaints procedures, judicial review; voluntary arrangements; registration and inspection of childminders
Child Protection and care proceedings:including preparing a case, child assessment and protection orders, ex-parte applications; police protection care and supervision proceedings
Children being looked after by a Local Authority
Assessment
The Fellowship Award is assessed through three substantial 'work based' assignments / projects of some 5000 words each. There are no time limits involved.
