The course will enable you to work at home and abroad with children: As a nanny in the home In a day nursery school/class With children with additional needs As a teaching assistant in a reception class As a children's holiday representative High grades will enable you to apply to university to pursue a route into/early years education/teaching, child development and other choices. We also offer the Early Years Foundation and BA Hons degree for our students to progress onto when they have gained employment. Our results show that a high number of students have progressed into employment on completion of this course; many have been as a result of completing successful placements. 98% completed their course and gained employment in Jul 2015.

During two years of full time study you will attend a minimum of 125 days in placement this will include 1 whole week each half term. Whilst in placement you will also be visited by our assessors who will carry out observations to show you have gained the skills to show you are competent to work with children in different age ranges.

Candidates must undertake the teaching of all units to enable them to pass the full diploma.
Every learner at Central Sussex College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:
- Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
- English and Maths – Every learner will work towards Level 2 English and Maths (C grade equivalent). Learners who have achieved a Grade C will extend their English and Maths.
- 3E – Our own brand of specific entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability training.
You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the three elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study of into work.
