Course programme

This engaging and innovative work-based course offers you the opportunity to gain a qualification while continuing to work. The course is specifically designed for those working with children and young people in the capacity of an unqualified teacher, a learning support assistant or an adult, other than a teacher, in a school or similar educational setting. Gain valuable experience in the educational setting while developing knowledge and an understanding of how children and young people learn in different contexts through the study of theories related to child development. 100% of Foundation Degree Childhood Studies graduates were in employment or further study six months after completing their studies (2013-14 DLHE) By carrying out tasks in your workplace, you will be able to link practice to theory. Tasks are designed by you and discussed during sessions and then submitted as an appendix for module assessment. These then form practice-based evidence for critical reflection in assignments. These tasks may include directed observations, individual enquiries, data analysis and application of, and reflection upon, knowledge gained during the course. The Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University is an opportunity to engage in an innovative work-based course which enables you to gain a qualification while continuing to work. Your professional role, combined with an undergraduate ‘work-based ‘qualification will aid future employment opportunities and further qualifications.
