Children and Young People: Protection Policies and Procedures
Understand organisational CP and why it is important
Have explored strategies to take forward the development and implementation of CP policies and procedures, including undertaking stakeholder and risk analyses in the UK context and with Southern partners.
Have been introduced to the stages which make up the building of a child-safe organisation, including underlying principles and components of a CP policy and standards.
Have started to develop an action plan to take forward CP in their organisations.
Have identified obstacles and solutions in the context of their own organisations
Further details :
All organisations working with children, either directly or indirectly, have a moral and legal responsibility to protect children within their care from harm.
Often organisations are unaware of the risks to children in their work in the UK, in their overseas programmes, humanitarian efforts, and communications and media work.
Only recently have specialised child-focussed international NGOs developed and implemented their own CP policies and procedures and many are finding this challenging. In 2005 the ‘Keeping Children Safe Coalition’ launched a set of eleven standards relating to CP, emphasising a common understanding of CP issues and promoting good practice and increased accountability in this area.
This one day workshop will involve a mixture of practical exercises and theory and participants will be provided with CP toolkits and CD materials from a range of sources.
