Course programme

Year 1

You will be required to complete a minimum of 20 units and a choice of optional units to make a total of 65 credits. This is the social care pathway and will include a variety of assessment methods such as observations, written evidence, research and reflective accounts You will also need to achieve functional skills level 2 maths, English, and ICT.

You will be learning towards increasing your knowledge in health and safety, communication, child development, and the legislation that governs the sector.

Year 2

During this year, you will be learning to plan activities to meet the individual needs of the young people you are supporting to enable them to develop personally and academically. Additionally, you will understand the referral processes and interventions to support children s development. Further study will be around safeguarding and legislation within the sector.

Additional information

Assessment for the main qualification is undertaken in the workplace and includes assignments, observations, work-based evidence and professional discussions. You should demonstrate competence across various work-based tasks and compile a portfolio of evidence. This will be conducted in the workplace by your assigned assessor and via our e-portfolio system. Functional Skills lessons will be delivered in the College, preparing you for the exams.
