About this course
There are no special qualifications needed to join this course, however in order to attend mandatory work placements you will be required to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.

WHY TAKE A BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN CHILDREN'S CARE,
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT?
The course provides the knowledge to equip you to work effectively with young children from 0 to 8 years. Work experience plays an important part of this course with placements in a variety of settings. You may progress into employment as a nursery assistant, creche assistant, preschool assistant or move on to advanced level study.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will need to be able to work independently on coursework and also as part of a team whilst gaining practical experience. Practical skills will enhance your growing knowledge and understanding of child care and development and your experiences will provide opportunities for personal development of communication, planning and team working skills.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be continually assessed through assignments and tasks within College and practical experience in work placements leading to the compiling of a portfolio. Your knowledge is tested using a variety of written and oral questioning methods. There are no examinations.
PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities including Sign Language, First Aid and Craft and also in wider College enrichment activities. Early years students are invited to take part in international foreign work and study experiences. Day visits and conferences and guest speakers will enhance your learning within the College.
