Where does it lead?

The Certificate course leads to employment at qualified practitioner status, as nursery nurses, teaching assistants, and mothers†helps. It can also lead to university to study teacher training, speech therapy, early childhood studies, nursing, psychology or social work. To continue to study teacher training you will need to achieve a grade C or above at GCSE in English, Mathematics and Science. The Diploma course is ideal preparation for employment with children 0-8 years. Students can also progress to level 3 courses.

The First Certificate course allows students who want to work with children aged 0-8 years to explore and focus on the issues relating to the care of this age group. Learning is related to the early years environment and work experience will be arranged for you. Students will develop their understanding of children's needs and will learn to address them. They will also be taught the skills they need to become competent and effective childcare practitioners. They will learn about how children develop and how to communicate with children and adults. The course is a full time option which incorporates certificates in equality and diversity and healthy eating. There will be a 60 hour work placement in the second term.

The National Diploma is a two year course suited to those who will qualify for advanced level study. It prepares you for immediate employment in the early years sector with a recognised qualification enabling university entry.

If you intend to work with children under 8 years of age in a nursery, school, as a nanny, children†s nurse, midwife, nurse, social worker or to be a primary school teacher, this course is ideal with practical experience. The qualification is widely recognised and respected by employers and higher education.
