Children's Care, Learning and development NVQ Level 4
This qualification is for managers or lead/senior practitioners, peripatetic advisors and support workers. Examples of job roles are: childminding network co-ordinator, pre-school advisor, centre manager, senior practitioner.

What does the course involve?
To achieve the whole qualification at Level 4 a candidate must prove competence in four mandatory units and five optional units. This is work based and candidates must have an appropriate current relevant work role.

What will I study?
Mandatory Units You need to achieve 4 mandatory units: 401: Establish and develop working relationships, 402: Support policies, procedures and practice to safeguard children and ensure their inclusion and well-being, 403: Support programmes for the promotion of children's development, 404: Reflect on, review and develop own practice.

Optional Units Choose five optional units from: 405: Co-ordinate provision for babies and children, 406: Develop and support children's early learning, 407: Support and evaluate the curriculum, 408: Evaluate, assess and support the development of children, 409: Evaluate, assess and support children's communication, 410: Evaluate, assess and support children's creativity, 411: Evaluate, assess and support mathematical learning, 412: Evaluate and co-ordinate the environment for children and families, 413: Develop operational plans, 414: Co-ordinate provision for disabled children, 415: Co-ordinate special educational needs for early education, 416: Assess quality assurance, 417: Establish and sustain relationships with providers, 418: Co-ordinate and support the revision of policies, 419: Contribute to the enhancement of early education, 420: Research and develop an area of practice, 421: Provide information about children and families' services, 422: Co-ordinate work with families, 423: Manage multi-agency working arrangements, 424: Obtain additional finance, 425: Provide leadership, 426: Encourage innovation, 427: Allocate and monitor the progress of work, 428: Ensure health and safety requirements, 429: Provide learning opportunities for colleagues, 430: Manage finance, 431: Contribute to the leadership and management of integrated childcare, 326: Safeguard children from harm.

Will I get taught classes as part of my NVQ?
No. An NVQ programme is designed to accredit you for the knowledge and skills that you acquire as part of your professional duties. If you are looking for a taught based programme you may want to look at full time childcare courses based at Fosse Way.

Do I need to be working in Childcare?
Yes. You must be currently working in an appropriate management role in a childcare setting.

How long does the course take to complete?
It would be expected that most candidates would complete within 18 months. It is very important you keep to the targets set by your assessor throughout your programme.

Should I have any previous qualifcations/experience?
Yes. You should have already attained a CCLD NVQ level 3 before undertaking the course and hold an appropriate management role.

What materials do I get as part of the programme?
You would be provided with a textbook and a module pack as part of the course materials. You can also access various texts at our library on the main site.
