Introduction Apprenticeships are the current recommended way for young people to gain the skills and knowledge required to work with children. They offer on and off the job training i.e. learning practical skills in a childcare setting; working towards a nationally recognised qualification with Stratford-upon-Avon college.

Course Units 9 units to complete - evidence obtained from the workplace by observation, witness testimonials, etc. and your completed work from all other elements of this apprenticeship

· Develop and promote positive relationships
· Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
· Promote children's development
· Reflect on and develop practice
· Protect and promote children's rights

4 further units to be chosen from a wide range of option units

Certificate Level 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development
This covers the underpinning knowledge, values and principles for the above NVQ and is delivered in college. There are 5 units as detailed below and these are assessed by four internally marked assignments and one multiple choice question paper.

· Principles and values underpinning work with children and the protection and promotion of children's rights
· The provision of healthy, safe and secure environments for children
· The provision of effective, high quality childcare environments
· Promoting child and young person development
· Promoting learning within early education frameworks

Paediatric First Aid
This is a 12 hour course covering all areas of first aid in relation to children as required by Ofsted

ERR - Employers Rights and Responsibilities
This is to help you understand your rights and responsibilities and those of others within the workplace. This will be achieved by undertaking the CWDC (Children's Workforce Development Council) Induction Standards which are required by all workers new to childcare and are based on the policies and procedures of your workplace. Work to evidence these standards will take place at college and in the workplace.

Key Skills Communication
This will be completed at level 2. This will include communication in different formats such as taking part in group discussions, obtaining information from a variety of sources, writing observations and reports based on your workplace.

Key Skills Application of Number
This will be completed at level 2. You will need to obtain information from a variety of sources, both from work and socially, and be able to carry out calculations and explain your results:

Entry Requirements
Requirements needed to be accepted on a level 3 apprenticeship are:-

· Be between the age of 16 and 24 years
· Have completed an NVQ Level 2 CCLD or equivalent
· A minimum of 1 years experience working with children
· Supply a reference from your employer - stating your suitability for the course and their support in the workplace
· You can be released from your workplace to attend college one day a month (there may be occasional other days for courses such as first aid and for exams)

It will take you between 18 months and 2 years to complete the qualification dependant on their commitment and performance
