This Level 3 course leads to the achivement of Early Years Educator status.  This is the recommended level of qualification required to undertake such roles as working with children under 8 as a Keyworker or Nursery Assistant in an Early Years Foundation Stage setting or as a Teaching Assistant in a Reception class in Primary schools.   It is also a 'gateway' qualification for many other careers within the Children's Workforce such as Portage Worker, Family Support Worker, SENCO or Children's Holiday Representative.  Those who wish to continue into Higher Education will gain UCAS points for the EYE which will enable them to progress into careers such as Early Years or  Primary Teacher, Social Worker, Speech & Language Therapist or Play Therapist among others.

Course programme

Entry requirements for the Early Years Educator (National Diploma Children's Play Learning & Development) will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at C grade or above, 2 of which must be English and Maths.


Learners will enjoy a variety of teaching approaches and study Core units which include: Child Development, Play and Learning, Meeting Children's Physical Development, Physical Care and Health Needs, Health and Safety in Early Years Settings, Working With Parents and Others in Early Years, Supporting Children's Speech, Communication and Language, Supporting Children's Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Safeguarding in Early Years, Observation, Assessment and Planning, Supporting Children's Literacy and Numeracy Development, Reflective Practice and The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).


And choice of options such as: Working With Children Who Have Additional Needs, Supporting Children's Imaginative Play, Cooking Activities With Children, Supporting Children's Creativity, Promoting Children's Development Outdoors


There is a requirement for learners to attend for 2 days each week in an Early Years work placement. The College will help with finding and organising work placements in Early Years settings and environments suggested by the learner and which are normally close to your own home.
