The Northern Logistics Academy is a logistics and transport training specialist delivering sector specific training and qualifications. St Helens College and Knowsley Community College collaboratively launched the Northern Logistics Academy to plug skills gaps and to encourage uptake of careers within the logistics sector. It has received backing and support from key industry bodies and employers across the Northwest region.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in the UK is the membership organisation for professionals involved in the movement of goods and people and their associated supply chains. CILT qualifications offer professionals at every level and in every sector of the industry an opportunity to gain professional recognition of their knowledge and experience.

About this course

Course programme

This qualification comprises of two mandatory units and one optional unit:
Mandatory Units:
Business Theory - This unit gives students the ability to understand and use theory from such elements as marketing and product positioning to managing information, reporting to finance and aspects of legality.

Business Application - This unit contains a wide spread of information covering key management practices and theory across functional management through to business planning, motivation and the art of managing people.
Optional Units:
Warehousing - This unit provides learners with essential knowledge and understanding to deliver the skills required by an aspiring warehouse manager to operate effectively.
Inventory - This unit is designed to introduce students to the knowledge and understanding of inventory management and the techniques involved in balancing trade-offs to deliver optimum supply chain performance.
Procurement -This unit is designed to equip learners with the basic skills and knowledge required to perform procurement effectively.
Supply Chain Operations - This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to understand the operation of supply chains in various business settings.
Freight Transport Operations - This unit gives knowledge and understanding of the structure and operation of all types of freight transport operations, including supply chain operation, across all the major transport modes.
Local Authority Passenger Transport Planning and Provision - This unit seeks to help equip practitioners with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective and efficient services that meet the identified needs of local communities.
Passenger Transport Operations - This unit aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the structure and operation of all types of passenger transport operations for local, national and international journeys in all the major modes of transport.
Transport Planning - This unit seeks to give a favour of the different elements of transport planning, showing the part played by each in the decision-making, planning, development and implementation of transport projects. In addition, it covers relevant issues concerning travel behaviour, mode choice and accessibility are addressed.
