Information about the course

This is the primary route to Corporate Membership of the CIPD and is suitable to professionals who learn best in an instructor led, team environment.

This is a post graduate (level 7) qualification.

Course content

Year 1 - Leadership & Management
The first year of the course covers four modules designed to give an overall understanding of Business Management. The modules are as follows:

Managing Information for Competitive Advantage
How information and stastics are used and managed to gain strategic competitive advantage.

Managing & Leading People
Encourages the learner to identify the factors which enable people to maximise their contribution to corporate goals and to support their own development.

Managing for Results
This module covers four main themes: The Practice of Management, Delivering Change, Enhancing Customer Relations and Enabling Continuous Improvement.

Managing in a Strategic Business Context
The main aim of this module is to identify, examine and analyse the major contexts within which organisations operate .

Exemptions from Year 1:
Individuals who have a business/HR related degree or MBA and have covered the majority of PDS1 topics, may be eligible to gain exemption from Year 1. You must contact the CIPD who will confirm your eligibility for exemption.

Year 2
People Resourcing
Covers all aspects of People Resourcing including recruitment, selection, HR planning and performance management.

Learning and Development
Covers all aspects of learning and development and its critical role within organisations.

Employee Relations
Covers how to gain people’s commitment to the achievement of the organisation’s business goals in a number of different situations.

Year 3
Employee Reward
Discusses how people are rewarded in accordance with their value to an organisation.

People Management & Development
This double module covers all key elements of personnel and development in the main generic areas of resourcing, development, relations and reward.

Applied Personnel & Development (AP&D)
Learners are supported in writing a 7000 word management research report and completing a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) learning log.

Assessment

All modules are assessed by written assignment and examination. The exams are set internally for the first year and then by CIPD for the second and third year. The Management Report and CPD log are also required for the AP&D standard. Entry for exams depends on the achievement of relevant assignment grades. The CIPD awards graduate membership after all examinations and the Management Research Report and CPD log have been successfully completed.
