The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is an international organisation, based in the UK, serving the purchasing and supply profession - they are the leading body representing the field of procurement and supply chain management. The CIPS level 6 professional diploma is designed for those who may currently be employed as a senior procurement professional or head of department or, have ambitions to that level of post. The Professional Diploma in procurement and supply is targeted at building strategic procurement competence, giving managers the ability to formulate strategic direction and advice, in terms of change management, stakeholder management and team leadership. This is an industry standard qualification which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the premier professional body in the industry.

This qualification is suitable for colleagues in the logistics industry and study is offered through our Northern Logistics Academy. The Northern Logistics Academy is a logistics and transport training specialist delivering sector specific training and qualifications. St Helens College and Knowsley Community College collaboratively launched the Northern Logistics Academy to plug skills gaps and to encourage uptake of careers within the logistics sector. It has received backing and support from key industry bodies and employers across the Northwest region.

This course gives you the essential information and leadership skills you'll need to provide effective management in procurement.

At this level there are 3 core modules that must be completed as well as 2 that can be selected from the optional units below:

Core Units:

  • Leadership in Procurement and Supply - Understand the main leadership skills and behaviours that are appropriate for improving procurement and supply chain management, be able to create a communication plan to influence personal involved in a supply chain, gain an understanding of how to overcome common challenges faced by procurement and supply chain managers and understand the main methods to lead change in the supply chain.
  • Corporate Business Strategy - Gain understanding of the concept of strategy in organisations in supply chains, the main elements of strategy formulation and implementation that impact on supply chains, the implementation of strategies in supply chains. You will also learn how to develop a plan for the development of the supply chain functional strategy.
  • Strategic Supply Chain Management - Understand how strategic supply chain management can support and influence corporate and business levels of strategy, how different aspects of supply chain design can influence the supply chain strategy, the main techniques to achieve effective strategic supply chain management and be able to create a plan to achieve effective strategic supply chain management.
Optional Units:
  • Supply Chain Diligence - Gain understanding of the main implications of globalisation on supply chain management, the main aspects of the corporate environment and their impact on supply chains, the main financial aspects that affect supply chains and the main performance measures of the supply chain.
  • Programme and Project Management - Understand the main aspects of major programmes and projects, the main contracting issues for major programmes and projects, the main approaches to planning of major programmes and projects and the main approaches to the control of major programmes and projects.
  • Legal Aspects in Procurement and Supply - Understand the main issues that relate to the formation of relationships in supply chains, gain an understanding of how to interpret and apply implied and express contractual terms that impact on procurement and supply, the main regulations that impact of procurement and supply and gain understanding of the legal implications of contractual non-performance in procurement and supply.
