ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. It would be an advantage for a student to have prior knowledge of IT and to be proficient at the use of IT applications.

Admittance onto this course of study remains at the discretion of the College based upon the above criteria.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is designed to allow candidates to demonstrate understanding of the processes involved in installing, configuring and upgrading computer systems both hardware and software.

CISCO is the world leader in networking for the Internet. IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software introduces students to Information Technology and Data Communication.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
PC Hardware and Software provides a comprehensive overview of computer fundamentals and an introduction to advanced concepts. It is intended for individuals who want to pursue careers in IT and gain practical knowledge of how a computer works.

Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. They will also be able to connect computers to the Internet and share resources in a networked environment.

PC Hardware and Software will help students prepare for entry-level IT positions within various environments. It will also help students develop greater skills and confidence in working with desktop and laptop computers.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
The methods that are employed are varied, the learning material is available on-line and this mode of delivery offers the student flexibility of study. In conjunction with the on-line learning material formal lectures will take place. There are also practical laboratory sessions that allow the students to put into practice what they have learnt. All laboratory sessions are held in a specialised computing suite.

The method of assessment for the course is varied and all students must pass all of the assessments to complete the course. Each module has the following assessments:
  • Practical Examination
  • On-Line multiple choice test

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Candidates on completion of this course could further expand their support skills by undertaking the MCSE course, the CCNA: Discovery course or the CCNA: Exploration course.
