ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of C&G 2451 level 2 or other relevant level 2 qualification
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is for anyone wishing to progress within the marine industry or wishing to validate their marine experience with a qualification.
There is both a full time option (over one year) and a part time, day release option (over two years) for those employed in the marine industry.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course consists of four units; the college is offering two routes.
All students study the mandatory units
Safe and effective working in a boatbuilding, repair and service environment
Boatbuilding repair and servicing materials technology
Then choose either
Producing and finishing structural components
Fibre reinforced plastics technology for marine construction
Or
Marine engines
Marine propulsion systems
Within this the student will further their knowledge about the industry as a whole and the various roles, jobs and career pathways through the industry. They will learn how to work safely using the most modern and up to date processes and materials.
The course is designed to build on the skills and knowledge from the level 2 qualification and give the skills required for the student to work independently in the marine industry.
The course is a very practical one where the student will get hands on experience of fitting various parts and pieces of equipment to boat structures. They will also be manufacturing boat related composite components. These activities will be undertaken at our brand new Marine and Composites facility adjacent to the college.
Full time students will In addition study the appropriate key skills.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
The course has two practical units and two theory based units, this gives a good spread of practical and classroom based work. The student will have access to all the latest teaching aids, computer based learning material and full computer access.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
The course can lead to more academic study at level 3 and on to Higher Education courses of study leading ultimately to Degree level.
