Overview
This course will equip candidates with the basic understanding and principles of 2D drawing environment, in terms of hardware, software and physical surroundings. It will explore the typical composition of a CAD system and health and safety matters that are associated with safe working practices Candidates with use key components in 2D CAD software, creating lines and shapes relative to absolute coordinate system, using text, hatch and simple dimensioning routines, modify existing drawings and output a 2D drawing layout.

Entry Requirements
No specific qualifications, previous learning or experience is required. However, basic literacy and numeracy skills are an added advantage. In addition candidates should have the ability to read write, organise and interpret written tasks in English. An initial assessment of each candidate will be made before the start of the programme to identify candidates that have any specific training needs support, credit they have accumulated and the appropriate type and level of qualification. There will be an induction programme so the candidate fully understands the requirements of the qualification, their responsibilities as a candidate, and the responsibilities of the centre. This information will be recorded on a learning contract.

Course Duration
The evening courses run on Tuesday. Teaching sessions start at 18.00 and end at 21.00 for 20 weeks i.e. 3hrs per week. Course start date is 9th February 2016 and end date 26th July 2016

Skills and Benefits
This course will provide you with the essential skills in how to use Computer Aided Design software. You will learn how an object is designed in 2D and be able demonstrate your skills through completion of a number of practical assignments. The Awards in 2D CAD is for people who work, or want to work, in manufacturing, civil engineering or engineering design where skills in 2D design are essential.

Mandatory Units
All units of this qualification are mandatory.

Optional Units
There are no optional units on this course.

Course Assessment
There is an assignment with three tasks that must be completed in 4 hours and 20 minutes which is split in three consecutive sessions. Task A consists of creating a basic 2D drawing, Task B a more complex drawing and Task C comprises of Short-answer questions. All the three tasks are internally assessed in the college and externally verified by City and Guilds. The tasks are graded Pass, Merit and Distinctions.

Progression
This qualification is designed for learners wishing to undertake a career as a draughts person or design engineer who have little or no knowledge of CAD software or may have completed the Level 1 Award in Parametric Modelling. Progression may lead to the Level 3 award in 2D CAD or a Level 2 certificate in CAD upon completion and passing both Level 1 Parametric Award and Level 2 2D CAD.

Course Fees
£564 per course at level 2 of the City and Guilds CAD. This includes learning materials tuition fees and assessment fees.
