Aim –
This course provides a solid foundation on which you can build your tiling career. The qualification can be used as accredited prior learning towards an NVQ although further training and/0r experience may be required.

This course is designed for complete beginners and no experience required.
Course Content –
· Basic health and safety training
· What tools are required, different types, safe use of wet and dry cutters, tool maintenance and care.
· Using a wet cutter to mitre tiles / hole cutting wall and floor surface, understanding their preparation including movement joints.
· Where to start measuring and setting out of tiles and designs taking into account central and lowest point features.
· The correct way to serrate adhesive into walls and floors.
· The correct way to fix different types and sizes of tiles to wall and floors.
· How to mix grout to the right consistency bearing in mind room temperature and its application.
· The different methods required to cut tiles around different objects, sinks, toilets, switches. Maintenance and repair work to walls and floors.
· Wall and floor preparation for tanking systems, where and when to use it
· Method statements, risk assessments.
· Exercise on quoting and costing
· Additional information about grouting, tiling onto wall and floor tiles, tiling onto plaster, render, wood and concrete.
· The correct way to tile around windows, reveals and shelves
· Where and how to use tile beading and the correct way to mitre inside and outside windows, splash backs etc…
· Understanding the method to be able to tile onto uneven walls and floors.
· Tuition on different tile textures and the appropriate use and handling of these tiles.
· Tutor lead discussion on natural stone
· Introduction on the need and how to get recognized qualifications in the industry i.e. NVQ’s and CSCS
· Starting your own business basic book keeping, advanced quoting and costing exercises, liabilities insurances, health and safety questionnaire.
· Laying of under floor heating
· Tiling questionnaire relating to topics covered throughout the course
· Additional information on about tiling onto screed, masonary, metal asphalt, glass and mosaic tiles, tiling a balcony
· Grouting a swimming pool. and self leveling compound
Training Method –
This course is mainly practical with a touch of theory on a Friday.
Duration –
15 days Mon – Thursday 8.30am – 4.30pm, Friday 9.00 am – 12.30pm
