Although candidates do not need to have formal prior knowledge in the form of recognised qualifications, it is expected that candidates MUST have a basic understanding and practical awareness of Electrical Installation circuitry.

Course Description:
The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the definitive standards for the electrical industry in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards and are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS 7671).
This qualification is primarily aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IEE Wiring Regulations. It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
It is intended to ensure that individuals are conversant with the format, content and application of the Regulations for Electrical Installations BS 7671 2008 (17th Edition).
This qualification was developed by City & Guilds in conjunction with members of the electrical industry including NICEIC, ECA and is approved by the SSC Summit Skills.
The qualification covers topics such as protection for safety, selection and erection of equipment, and inspection and testing to meet the standards of the IEE Wiring Regulations.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must have minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with Health and Safety aspects of the scheme and be able to complete and achieve the learning outcomes.
Assessment and Progression:
Candidates are strongly advised to obtain a copy of the BS 7671 - 17th Edition to become familiar with the layout and content prior to the course date (this can be sourced from highstreet retailers or online).
Duration:
30 guided learning hours and a 2 hour online assessment. Attendance will usually be one full day per week for four consecutive weeks but this may change.
