Brief Description of the Course:

This 10 week Creative Skills Award is designed as a valid and reliable basic introduction to the production of simple floral items. You will develop practical skills, using a range of materials, in the planning, preparation, construction and presentation of simple floral designs.

Entry Criteria:

This course covers practical skills and relevant background knowledge. Students are normally aged 16 or over and have a genuine interest in floristry on a commercial basis.

List of Units:

¨ Traditional Flower Arrangement – Table Decor

Assessments:

Assessments will include assignments and practical work. There are no formal examinations on the Level 1 programme.

Possible Careers / Jobs:

¨ Working in a florist shop

Progression:

On successful completion of the Level 1 Award there is an option to progress to Level 2 Certificate or Award units in Floral Design.

Special Requirements:

1 Specialist Clothing and Equipment:

¨ Stationery e.g. presentation files, decorative papers, notebooks, pencils etc

¨ Plant materials – flowers & foliage to create weekly designs.

¨ Photography – equipment and developing.

¨ Floristry Tool box including a range of mechanics: wires, tapes, string etc

¨ Protective Apron

N.B Complete lists will be discussed at enrolment to ensure all students purchase most appropriate and cost effective tools and equipment

2 Study Tours:

  • There will be an optional opportunity to book on a range of trips and tours. These may include trips to Holland to visit auctions and growers, Bruges to visit an international flower show, New Covent Garden in London and various day trips to enhance the learner experience.
