The level 2 diploma qualification is an excellent introductory course for students wishing to further develop some key skills and understanding of motorcycle systems. The course will provide practical knowledge and experience combined with academic study. The course is designed to give you a broad understanding of the subject with a view to progressing on to a level 3 diploma course or to start work in industry.

Students will learn knowledge and skills in health, safety and good housekeeping, routine maintenance, engine systems as well as skills in removing and replacing motorcycle electrical units and components. Students will develop skills in using had tools and measuring devices for modifications, fabrication and repair in the automotive environment.

(NB: All programmes are based on credit accumulation. Each unit of study is worth either 5 or 10 credits towards the total amount needed to achieve the qualification).

Entry Criteria:

This course covers practical skills and relevant background knowledge. Students are normally aged 16 or over and the following qualifications are needed:

· a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade D or above to include English Language

· or equivalent qualifications.

¨ Unit 302 Skills in motorcycle internal engine systems

¨ Unit 303 Skills in removing and replacing motorcycle electrical units and components

¨ Unit 304 Skills in removing and replacing motorcycle chassis units and components

¨ Unit 305 Skills in motorcycle preparation and inspection

¨ Unit 351 Knowledge of routine motorcycle maintenance

¨ Unit 352 Knowledge of motorcycle engine and operating systems

¨ Unit 353 Knowledge of removing and replacing motorcycle electrical units and components

¨ Unit 354 Knowledge of removing and replacing motorcycle chassis units and components

¨ Unit 355 Knowledge of motorcycle preparation and inspection

¨ Unit 372 Knowledge of motorcycle fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units and components

Assessments:

Assignments (practical assessment workbooks) comprising of practical tasks and knowledge based questions to cover all learning outcomes as well as online multiple choice tests.

Possible Careers / Jobs:

Apprenticeship or employment in a variety of roles including specialist repair or specialist finisher in a motorcycle workshop.

Progression:

Level 2 students can progress to level 3 programmes subject to published entry requirements and satisfactory performance at level 2.

Although not essential for the course, students may wish to buy books.
