Course description: This work related course will give you an introduction to travel and tourism industry. We have excellent links with employers to give you real hands-on practical experience at hotels, airport and events as well as many opportunities for trips and guest speakers. This course will give you the skills and knowledge to find an apprenticeship, work or progress onto study at a higher level.
The course is made up of units which will include
Interpersonal skills for the travel and tourism workplace
Planning an event
Worldwide travel and tourism destinations
Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
Contribute to the delivery of an entertainment activity in travel and tourism
We work closely with a large number of employers to give you real life work experience. Every year City College Norwich students take over roles from staff throughout the 4 star Holiday Inn Norwich and Norwich International Airport. For 5 full days students take on roles from reception, check in and boarding desks and airport travel agency as well as providing front of house service and creating the entertainment for a major function.
In addition to the hotel and airport takeover, you will have the opportunity to visit travel agents, tourist destinations, a weeklong familiarisation visit to a holiday park, take part in College wide events such as the Norfolk Show and celebration evenings, hear guest speakers from the top companies in the travel industry such as Virgin, Ryan Air and TUI (Thomson and First Choice). These unique opportunities will not only give you to experience firsthand what it's like working in the industry but introduce you to potential future employers and give you tips on how to best get a job with them.
Good English and maths skills are essential for most jobs and courses you will progress onto. The Government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim. Depending on your grades when you start your course, you could either study Functional Skills or GCSEs alongside the other parts of your course programme. Please check our English and Maths page for further information
