Unit 206 - Access a Tree Using a Rope and Harness

Unit 306 - Carry out Aerial Rescue Operations

This Lantra Awards approved training course will introduce candidates to the skills required for accessing a tree using a rope and harness, and being able to carry out aerial rescue operations. In addition, to identify relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice. The competence assessment taken after the training, is registered with City & Guilds NPTC and successful candidates will be awarded the City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue qualification

Prior Learning

Candidates will be expected to have a good knowledge of tree species associated with their working background. It is advised that all candidates view / download the City & Guilds Recognising Tree Species and Hazardous Trees workbook prior to undertaking the course. Please follow the link below.

Generally, assessments are held on a separate day to the training days

Equipment needed

Helmet (Climbing EN 12492 / EN 397) with chinstrap (not exceeding 5 years old). It is recommended that a mountaineering style helmet be worn for climbing units.

Gloves are recommended, gripper style gloves work well

Chainsaw trousers or work style trousers. Jeans are not recommended

Chainsaw boots or strong work style boots

Personal First Aid Kit (containing a large wound dressing)

Whistle

Sharp Knife

Suitable non-snag outdoor clothing including waterproofs, you should be prepared for all weather conditions.

Hi-visibility vest, short sleeved is fine.

Climbing equipment is available for use. If you would like to use your own climbing equipment, it will be at the discretion of the Tutor and must have all the current LOLER certificates.

Additional Information

**It is important that you have a higher than average level of fitness and advisable that you have first aid training before undertaking this course.**

The fees include NPTC administration, registration and assessment charges. Any re-tests are not included
