City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing

Course content:
One of the benefits of this course is that the training is totally flexible and is made up of part-time attendance at the college and working at the students workplace. Students can, if they wish, select only certain units. The course is a 36 week 1 year programme.
Mondayâ€"5pm-9pm Course

Course structure:
Students will study the following units:

G22 Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
G18 Promote additional services or products to clients
G21 Provide hairdressing consultation services
GH16 Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques

Optional Units
GH17 Colour hair using a variety of techniques
GH18 Provide colour correction services
GH19 Creatively style and dress hair
GH20 Creatively dress long hair

H32 Contribute to the planning and implantation of promotional activities

Assessment procedure:
Practical assessments take place either at the college or at the workplace.
Oral assessments are utilised for the relevant practicals.
Written questions and case studies are included on completion of practical and oral assessments.
Participants present a portfolio of their work for assessment on completion of the course.

Entry requirements:
All applicants will have a personal interview. Candidates must be working in a commercial salon environment.
Level 2 students may use the course as a progression to update their skills. Experienced hairdressers will benefit from the flexibility of the course.

Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant.
