If you thought studying the classics was about as interesting as watching paint dry then you are in for a huge surprise. Intrigue, politics, and courtroom drama feature heavily - indeed all the elements that go to make up an exciting Hollywood blockbuster or two. So whether your interest stems from watching 'Gladiator' or because you have read about the Roman Empire we can offer you a peek into a fascinating world, whose ideas still resonate with society today.
The A level classical civilisation course aims to be both a serious academic study of history and literature in their classical context, and also an enjoyment of studying the literature, culture and politics of the classical world. To promote enjoyment of the course, trips will be arranged to classical sites both at home and abroad, for example the Roman baths at Bath and possibly Rome itself. The Advanced GCE in Classical Civilisation will appeal to you if:
· you are naturally curious about the world's places, peoples and environments
