Aim of course
This training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. Anyone working in or on trees is expected to hold a recognised certificate of competence. If you are self-employed, the regulations still apply. All training days prepare the course member to meet the required NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) assessment. The assessment day will take place by mutual arrangement after the training days are completed.

What will the course involve?
CS38 training covers a risk assessment of tree climbing operations; the selection, inspection and use of tree climbing equipment; safely climbing a tree; moving around the crown and descending; and carrying out aerial rescues. This course is for those who are inexperienced climbers with no previous formal climbing training.CS39 training covers identification, inspection and preparation of the equipment; ensuring safety of self and others; and operation of a chainsaw within the crown of a tree using a rope and harness.

Equipment Needed Course members will need to provide their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), which must carry current CE markings, a personal first-aid kit and pea-less whistle. You must be fit to undertake this training and ideally be 18 years of age or over.
