Course programme

Bachelor of Clinical Science

Mode:
full-time

Based at Peninsula Medical School’s Exeter campus, the Clinical Science degree programme aims to develop highly skilled professionals who are focused on health needs and are able to apply key Clinical Science principles directly to health problems.

As a Clinical Science graduate, you will be well positioned to contribute to improving the quality and outcomes of patient care within practical medical and health care settings. You will also learn about the wider UK health care environment and understand how science underpins, contributes to, and advances evidence-based medical practice, medical technologies and effective health care delivery.

Learning and Teaching
Teaching occurs in a variety of settings, with an emphasis on group and flexible independent study. This will be enhanced by the use of state-of-the-art e-Learning technologies. Your core learning will revolve around key clinical science scenarios and by undertaking placements within health care settings. This stimulating and inspiring approach will enable you to explore the fundamental and rapidly advancing science that underpins health, illness and disease, whilst retaining a clear clinical focus. In your final year, you will have the opportunity to undertake a challenging independent research project, in association with a health research professional.

Careers
The Clinical Science degree will prepare you for employment in your chosen clinical science pathway, which may be clinical research, NHS clinical scientist training, health care provision research, pharmaceutical industry or medical technology. Employment prospects will also be enhanced further by undertaking the professional training year placement. You will also be competitively placed to proceed onto either higher degrees (eg, PhD) or graduate entry programmes in medicine, dentistry or other health care professions.
