This qualification allows you to work with the entire range of sports therapy techniques. It adds therapy skills for sports injuries and rehabilitation to the sports massage remedial bodywork qualification, opening the door to all sports therapy fields and enabling you to work alongside medically trained personnel. Syllabus

Diploma in Sports Massage and Remedial Bodywork
The above Diploma, which is currently being re-validated by the SMA, is included in the Advanced Diploma course. The other half of this award contains the following modules:

Gym Instruction and Fitness Testing
All the standard testing and fitness training techniques used in gyms or sports clubs.

Basic and Sports Nutrition
Sports specific requirements; pre and post event loading and recovery; water and sports drinks; bulking protein powders; performance, speed, strength, stamina

Sports Injuries
Evaluation of injury; injuries related to specific sports; orthopaedic tests; assessment, management and treatment of injuries to lower and upper limbs, spine and trunk, including taping and strapping. This module includes ‘real-life’ experience in the teaching clinics.

Rehabilitation and Bio-mechanics
Assessment of limbs, spine and feet; gait analysis, walking re-education; restoration of mobility, progressive phases of rehabilitation; strength, balance and co-ordination; core stability; hydrotherapy; sports remedial exercise; selection of treatment modalities

Electrotherapy
Enables you to be insured for the use of electrical equipment such as TENS, ultrasound and interferential.

Work Experience
120 clinic hours are logged and assessed, with experience including running an “in-house” clinic at the college.

Weekly college attendance

Full-time study equates to three to four days per week and part time is anything from one day per week. Most courses can be studied in a flexible way.

Study Days

Studied four days a week for three terms, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (or two days per week over two years).

Additional information

Payment options: To enrol and secure a place, you must pay a 25% deposit. Your fees include all class activities, course notes, exam registrations and any special kits required (for example, essential oils for aromatherapy or reflexology kits for reflexology courses). However, you will need to pay for your course text books most of which we stock at college and can often be purchased by you at a discount. Also, when you enrol on a practical course you will need to buy a college uniform from the college office.
