Overview
This one day course will describe and compare the various different approaches to video and audio data compression. Through a mix of discussion and demonstrations delegates will get to see and hear the differences as various different compression systems are put through their paces.
Course Content
Introduction:
Why use compression: An overview of the benefits & pitfalls
Audio Data Reduction:
- The two main approaches: Waveform-based & psychoacoustic-based
- MPEG audio, including layers, MP3, MP4 (AAC)
- Dolby systems, including Dolby Digital and Dolby E
Video Data Reduction:
- The two main approaches: DCT & wavelets
- Intra-frame & Inter-frame techniques
- JPEG & MJPEG
- The MPEG story
- JPEG2000
- Applications, including video recording & transmission, CBR, VBR
- Wrappers, containers & viewers
The session begins at 10.00 and finished around 17.00.
