This course is designed for kids who have a basic understanding of ‘Scratch’. Learning to code is a great way to expand their minds and learn how to “think” like a computer does. Once kids have mastered a project and can say “Look! I made that happen!” you will begin to see a change in the way they view computers. Children will enjoy this course where they will create fun, playable games that they have coded themselves. They will learn about creating popular games that all players will enjoy. Whether they enjoy creating stories, interactive games or solving puzzles this course will allow them to expand their knowledge and develop their coding skills.

Course programme

  • LESSON 1 -

    Point N’ Click Games

Learn how to create your very own point n’ click game and discover what you can create with only a few lines of code in Scratch! Challenge the player’s reactions as we learn to hide and show Sprites and add timers to our game to calculate the high scores. Are you ready to start making games?

  • LESSON 2 -

    Racing our Friends

It is important to make sure players can interact with our games. Otherwise they wouldn’t be much fun to keep playing. To do this we must learn about events that happen in games that you might not even be aware are happening. Make your very own race course and challenge your friends to beat the fastest time!

  • LESSON 3 -

    Maze Games

Good code isn’t about getting the computer to do things. It’s about doing them quickly and efficiently, so you don’t have to spend hours coding or waiting for the results. To create our very own Maze Games we will look at different ways to code the keyboard movement and find out which is the quickest and most efficient way to move through our Maze.

  • LESSON 4 -

    Arcade Games

Now we can begin creating our first real game. This is an arcade game that began in 1976 and resurfaced in 1991. Now it’s our turn to remaster the classic: Snake! To do this we must examine events that make the snake move, how it grows and what happens when we bump into ourselves.

  • LESSON 5 -

    Endless Running Games

Create your very own Flappy Bird Clone using all of the tools available in Scratch. We will learn how a little bit of Maths can allow us to create a scrolling background to make the world look as if it is moving around the player.

  • LESSON 6 -

    One-Click Survival Games

Ready to fend of waves of Zombies? Fight off some Robot Space Pirates? Survival games have become hugely popular games available on Mobile Devices. In this lesson we will create our very own fantastic survival game. Learn about creating Enemy Sprites and how to avoid obstacles.

  • LESSON 7 -

    Quest Game - Part 1

Quest Games are lots of fun to make. This is the first of a two-part lesson to understand how we can use Event Blocks to make levels in our game connect together. Then we can focus on story-telling elements to entice our players into the world we have created.

  • LESSON 8 -

    Quest Game - Part 2

To make our Story more challenging we should add some costume changes to our Sprites. Why not add in other characters that your Sprite can talk to? We will learn more about colliding with obstacles and making the game more realistic in our Final Lesson in Game Development.
