About the course

A major new CPD course has been commissioned from York University and is to be offered through the Relate Institute in September and October 2009.

This course, delivered in two 2-day blocks aims to increase participant's knowledge and understanding but also to enable them to gain some limited practice in the use of cognitive behavioural skills and simple interventions. The workshop will be designed to address ways in which CBT skills can be applied to the context of working with people with relationship issues. It will also assist in helping Relate Centres to be better prepared to work in conjunction with the network of services designed to improve access to psychological therapies.

Course content and Objectives

This workshop is intended to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts, principles and skills underpinning CBT. The workshop will cover;

  • The BCT model of emotional problems
  • Assessment and information gathering using the structured CBT model
  • Consideration of factors indicating likely benefit from short-term CBT
  • CBT therapeutic skills
  • CBT formulation
  • CBT Interventions
