My experience at Coventry has been very good so far. I am enjoying the lectures as well as lab tutorials. Lab tutorials allow me to discuss with about my work and and get feedback. Overall it is I am really glad with my choice. It offers industrial placement as well as year abroad placement, it also offers the summer internships enhances chance of employability. The good thing about this course is that it allows me to do the various types of activities in group and lecturer provides the examples which makes lectures more interesting and makes easy for us to understand the topic. Its really good opportunity to be part of the Student's Union as it involves many task which helps to build student's confident and communication skills.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a current form of evidence-based psychological therapy recommended by NICE as a first line intervention for many psychological disorders. This MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy aims to increase students’ knowledge base of theory and research in CBT; and to promote a critical approach to the subject. The course also provides practical; intensive and detailed skills training to facilitate skills development to a defined standard of competence. The course is a Level 2 course in CBT and as such “provides all the necessary training so that on graduation from Level 2 courses; individuals will have received the training required to fulfil BABCP's Minimum Training Standards” The training aims to help students to achieve the level of theoretical knowledge; reflective abilities and clinical skills to work as psychological therapists; using evidence based cognitive behaviour therapy methods in their work. Additional information: 14 places each year are funded by Health Education England From January 2018 there will be a Self-funding option Next cohort PgD starts January 2018 First cohort MSc Top-up starts May 2016 The Top-up to MSc (HLST133) is not available to international students

This course aims to train students to deliver CBT to people with depression and anxiety. Successful completion of the training equips individuals to be skilled and independent CBT practitioners. In addition to providing practical, intensive and detailed skills training to facilitate skills development to a defined standard of competence, the course aims to increase trainees’ knowledge base of theory and research in CBT, and to promote a critical approach to the subject.
The programme is delivered by experienced and accredited lecturer/practitioners in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. The award provides an excellent foundation for achieving accreditation with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?On the course you will learn how to:
- Construct maintenance and developmental CBT conceptualisations for depression and anxiety disorders
- Develop CBT-specific treatment plans
- Practise CBT with depression and anxiety disorders systematically, creatively and with good clinical outcomes
- Deal with complex issues arising in CBT practice
- Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving therapeutic problems
- Practise as ‘scientist practitioners’, advancing your knowledge and understanding and develop new skills to a high level
- Demonstrate a systematic knowledge of the principles of CBT and the evidence base for the application of CBT techniques
- Demonstrate a systematic knowledge of CBT for depression and anxiety disorders
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical and research evidence for cognitive behavioural models and an ability to evaluate the evidence
- Demonstrate an ability to adapt CBT sensitively, and to ensure equitable access for people from diverse cultures and with different values.
- Display competence in research methodology and data analysis
For the award of PgD CBT students will need to complete four modules:
Module 1: Fundamentals of CBT
Module 2: CBT for Anxiety
Module 3: CBT for Depression
Module 4: Personal and Professional Development
For the award of MSc CBT students will need to complete one additional module:
Module 5: Research Methodology
HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?The course is modular, offered on a part-time basis, and is delivered through a combination of university attendance, clinical supervision in the place of employment, and access to online learning materials.
Students will normally complete the PgD Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in one year and must pass all four modules and complete a portfolio before they enter the second year and enrol on the MSc (Top-up). Students will normally complete the MSc (Top-up) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in one year.
The course is taught through a range of teaching styles and opportunities, providing both an opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of relevant materials and an opportunity to develop clinical competence.

- Supervised Clinical Placement
- Academic Lectures
- Skills Workshops
- Individual and group clinical supervision both within the clinical setting and within the university
- Guided self-study
- Individual tutorials
For the award of PgD CBT six assignments must be successfully completed during the course:
- One literature review
- Two case studies
- Two process reports
- One reflective report
The final practice portfolio is submitted on completion of year one.
For the award of MSc CBT an additional two assignments must be successfully completed:
- Research Proposal
- Systematic Literature Review
The first year of the course is one year’s duration: two days a week at the University and three days a week in clinical practice.
Teaching is delivered on Thursday from 9.30 to 4.30 and Friday morning. Supervision is provided on Friday afternoon. The second year is one year’s duration during which all teaching is delivered on-line.
Ten hours academic supervision are provided during the year.
