Course programme
A 2-day stained glass course comprises one day learning the skills involved in traditional stained glass lead work, as used to produce beautiful windows over the centuries, and one day learning how to produce beautiful stained glass items with Tiffany style foil work.
On the traditional leaded stained glass day you will be taken through all the stages involved in producing leaded stained glass - marking out the pattern, cutting the glass, leading and assembling the panel etc. You will make a simple but beautiful stained glass panel to take home with you.
The copper foil method of creating stained glass items is a process developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany towards the end of the 19th Century. He used it to create stained glass designs which were far more delicate and intricate, and more 3-dimensional, than traditional leaded work.
This is a very versatile technique which can be used to make lampshades (for which Tiffany is famous) and also terrariums, light-catchers, mirror-surrounds, boxes, clocks - in fact the list of beautiful stained glass projects you can create with copper foil is practically endless.
On the day you will be taken through all the stages involved in copper foil stained glass work - marking out the pattern, cutting the glass, foiling and assembling the piece etc. You can choose to make either a light-catcher or terrarium to take home.
The course fee covers all the materials used, a light lunch and unlimited tea & coffee!
If you prefer to come for a single day to learn just one aspect of stained glass work please see our other listings for "taster" days. Or you can concentrate on just one aspect over the two days, thus being able to produce a larger or more complicated piece, just let us know that is what you want to do when you book.
The dates shown are for Saturdays and Sundays, and also for Thursdays and Fridays. We also run Glass Fusing and Glass Mosaic work courses - please see our other listings or visit our website.
Our courses are friendly & fun. We hope to meet you on one soon!
