This degree is designed for those looking for a learning challenge and wanting to improve their employment opportunities and progress. This degree offers a range of subjects relevant to employment and which will stretch your mind. It will support individuals who have already obtained higher education credits, such as Higher National Certificates (HNC), Higher National Diplomas (HND) and Foundation Degrees. These awards and credits can be recognised and ‘carried in’ to the Combined Studies programme therefore shortening the length of study. In some instances this means that you might be able to complete a degree within 18 months of parttime study.

The course aims to enable understudies to: Manage their time in order to meet course deadlines
Understand different learning styles and their implications;
Gain the best result from their reading and listening;
Collect and select material from libraries and from electronic storage systems;
Record, manage and interpret information from books and lectures;
Present information orally and by using IT packages
Write reports and essays using appropriate structures and conventions;
Work with other students in groups;
Prepare for examinations;
Plan, organise and implement their personal programme of study
Show evidence of critical thinking;
Use e mails and search the web for information
Demonstrate library and information searching skills
As a Combined Studies graduate you should be adaptable, well organised and self motivated, with a variety of skills and qualities which employers are keen to use. The career prospects are therefore as varied as the course itself. This means you could go into a wide range of areas of employment such as management or administration, commerce or finance, teaching, social and community services, local government, and journalism or the media.
We consider all applicants on individual merit. You do not need any particular academic qualifications but some recent experience of academic study would be advantageous. Professional experience, skills developed in the workplace or in the home can place you in a strong position to study on this programme.
