This workshop is designed to develop communication strategies that effectively deal with difficult and/or dangerous situations. The delegate will be provided with a series of workable communication options that will help them in defusing and de-escalating potentially difficult subjects, thus reducing the risk of physical assault and harm. Suitable for: Members of staff or individuals who deal directly with others in pressure environments and who may be required to deal with difficult people on a regular basis. The workshop would benefit anyone who, by virtue of their employment, has to deal with potentially difficult people and hostile situations.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop delegates will be better able to:
- Identify the relevant components of communication
- Develop their own communication strategy and style
- Appreciate the importance of active listening
- Communicate in a positive and assertive manner
- Show awareness of the signs and cues associated with non-verbal communication
- Recognise the barriers to effective communication
- Appreciate the social issues relating to effective communication
- Defuse and de-escalate difficult situations using basic conflict management communication techniques
All delegates will be presented with a certificate of attendance and relevant handouts.
This workshop comprises two levels:
Level One is aimed at personnel who only require an overview of the topic and key issues
Level Two is aimed at personnel who, by virtue of their role within the organisation, require a more in depth study of the issues surrounding communication techniques

The course is limited to a maximum of 12 delegates in any single session.
