About this course

For 2010 entry: 300 points from 3 A levels or equivalent
For 2011 entry: 320 points from 3 A levels or equivalent
Preferred subjects: English Literature or Language, Communication Studies, Psychology, Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Philosophy, Law History, History of Art and Sociology. We also welcome students who have studied different subjects and can bring other perspectives to the student group.
Recommended GCSEs: A minimum requirement of 5 GCSE's A* - C including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications
If English is not your first language: IELTS 6.5 (Academic) or above.

Course Overview

It is broad in its scope, combining theory and practice and using approaches from the humanities and social sciences disciplines.

In the first and second year you will examine the different ways people communicate with one another including face to face interaction, television and through newspapers and online.

In your second year you undertake a four week work placement, previous students have worked in radio stations, advertising agencies, public relation agencies and much much more.

In your third year you pull together all the skills you have learnt in your two previous years plus your work placement to help you construct your very own creative project or piece of research.

Graduates from the programme have had great success in securing employment within the media industries and have gone on to careers in advertising, management, public relations, journalism, publishing, teaching, lecturing and training.

BA (Hons) Communication and Media is described by an External Examiner as having "a unique - and marketable - mix of skills". These include a portfolio of work, work experience and an element of professional training.
