Complexities of Critical Care Nursing

This module is delivered entirely online and is designed for local, national and international nurses who currently work in a critical care area and have a minimum of 2 years critical care experience.

In this module students will use case studies, drawn from their own area of practice, to develop a deep and systematic understanding of the complexities of critical illness. The module will cover the pathophysiology of critical illness and its implications will be explored in the context of patient assessment, interpretation of clinical observations and patient management. The content covers a broad range of critical care nursing including compassion, acute lung injury, shock, sepsis, delirium, intracranial insult, diabetic emergencies, acute kidney injury, acute pain and advanced ventilation.

Students will be expected to evaluate research in the context of their own patients’ culture and resources.
