The locations are quite spaced out are can be difficult to find at first however. The library is very large and the Hub is always full of life. Everything is amazing! Everything I need is here and a lot of opportunities! I would highly recommend it!

All universities offer either computer science or software engineering. But Coventry offers a combination of both into one degree: this is a really big advantage. It is very practical and there are many opportunities to progress into your career. Here we receive a lot of new applications and projects. For example, in my second year, I was assigned a project in which I had to develop a new app which navigated students and staff members through the campus. In two months I am travelling to Barcelona in order to work full time in Vistaprints.

About this course
This course provides a broad technical education in the hardware and software aspects of computer systems engineering and applications development. It is designed to bridge the gap between electronics/hardware engineering and computer science/software engineering.
If you choose this course you will benefit from:
accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This programme is IEng accredited and fulfils the educational requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer*;
opportunity to apply for placements at companies that have previously included: National Grid, GlaxoSmithKline, Severn Trent Water and Mercedes Benz through our professional training programme;
collaborative links with universities in 20 countries around the world, affording the chance for you to spend part of your studies abroad (subject to application);

Essential Entry Requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language and Mathematics, or specified equivalents.

Course programme
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The first year is designed to allow students from a diverse range of backgrounds to make a solid start on the course. Computer Engineering looks at the building blocks of computers and how they communicate. Electronics includes coverage of the digital logic building blocks and electronic circuits which are the foundation of computer hardware engineering. Electrical Engineering covers essential electrical circuits and power systems topics to give you the ability to power large computer systems reliably and efficiently.
The second year includes a group project with an engineering management component which covers issues that you will encounter while working in commercial engineering. The course continues to cover programming and operating systems, together with electronics and computer networks.
In your final year you will have the opportunity to continue your studies in software and electronics but with a focus on an individual project will perform a detailed research or design study with the help of an experienced supervisor into a technical aspect from the course.
Your course will be taught using lectures, with associated seminars, practical laboratory classes and personal tutorials. Your personal tutor will meet with you weekly during the first academic year and assist with your transition to studying in Higher Education.
You will work with staff on real-world problems from industry, commerce and research groups, as you would in professional practice; this means that you can develop all of the professional skills at the same time as you learn the technical content of your degree.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: formal examinations 40%; coursework, tests, essays 25%; practical or project work 20%; group work etc.10%; presentations, posters etc. 5%.

In a typical week you will have up to 20 contact hours of teaching and this will break down as:
Personal tutorial/small group teaching: 2 hours of meeting with your tutor (or, later, individual project supervision) each week
Medium group teaching: 6 hours of tutorials and practical work each week
Large group teaching: 12 hours of lectures each week
Personal study: 20 hours each week studying and revising in your own time, including some guided study using handouts, online activities, etc.
