Course programme

Get the solid technical and professional basis you need to build a career in the different branches of computing, with our two-year foundation degree course.

The course mixes lectures and seminars with work-based learning and alongside the ‘core’ course modules there are plenty of options for you to fine-tune your studies to reflect your interests and career goals.

In the first year you’ll get a detailed introduction to computer systems, design and programming and will start to apply what you learn during your first work placement. Year two then covers specialisms such as databases, software engineering and networks, and provides further work experience.

Whether you see yourself designing the next big mobile app, managing international business systems or building the next generation of supercomputers, this course is a solid step in the right direction.

By the time you graduate, you’ll be a confident computer scientist and engineer with a sound understanding of the main principles, valuable work experience and the ability to create applications and solutions using different technologies.

Additionally you’ll be ready for the professional workplace, with a sound knowledge of the relevant methods and practices, strong planning, administration and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with fellow team members.

Complete this course and you can transfer to year three of either our BSc (Hons) Computer Science course, taught in Cambridge or Kings Lynn, or BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems, taught in Peterborough.
