Introduction:
This Level 1 (Entry Level) course aims to assess your competence in using and understanding a typical personal computer system. It is a City & Guilds Certificate for IT Users (IT Principles Level 1).

Study Mode & Location:
This 2 week part-time course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The aim of this course is to provide a basic awareness of ICT and its uses in the workplace and at home. You will develop an understanding of the basic operation of computers, their operating environment and applications software. During this course you will look at:

  • Describing & Using Hardware.
  • Describing & Using Software.
  • Using Files & Directories.
  • Using the Operating Environment.
  • Describing Information Networks.
  • Identifying Health & Safety Requirements.


Assessment:
You will be assessed via one set assignment together with an on-line multiple choice exam.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the Computer Maintenance course (Level 2) or to the Cisco CCNA Advanced Networking (Level 3) course or to an HNC or Foundation Degree.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
