Course programme



The Computing (Information and Creative Technology) programme provides modules designed to help you develop your existing knowledge and skills for the IT sector. This course is designed to inspire and enthuse learners to become technology savvy – more able to be producers of technology products and systems, rather than just be consumers of them. It will give you the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative technology industries, e.g. computer games or animations development. It will give you the opportunity to progress onto a higher level programme or employment within the IT sector and creative industries, for example in roles such as a software engineer, or computer animators.


A practical approach, covering a range of key subject areas relevant to today’s computer industry is delivered via group tuition and ‘hands on’ workshops. You will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.


The course has been designed to provide a broad and balanced programme of study through the core, mandatory and optional units to develop knowledge, skills and understanding that are relevant to the sector as a whole.


Course Content
The Information and Creative Technology Extended Certificate may include the following units:

  • The Online World

  • Technology Systems

  • A Digital Portfolio

  • Computer Networks

  • Creating Digital Graphics

  • Software Development





Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs (grades A*-E) including English and Maths.


Career Opportunities

Students have the potential opportunity to progress to employment or progress within employment in a wide range of job roles across the Information Technology sector and creative industries, for example in roles such as software engineers, website content managers, computer animators, helpdesk support and graphic designers.


Course Progression

Progression is to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic IT/computing course e.g. Information Technology BTEC 90 Credit Diploma, or an IT Apprenticeship, such as IT Professional.

Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
You will receive the details of your first day over the summer period,
