The Islington branch of the Metropolitan Police asked City Lit to devise a course that would help improve the communication skills of their staff. The police officers themselves agreed on the priorities - writing effective reports, and speaking clearly and with authority - and they practised and developed these skills over a ten-week course.
Adrian Phipps, Islington's Training Officer said, "their improved self-confidence was the most immediate and obvious gain. The short, sharp programme was an excellent example of how employers can provide opportunities for their staff, and the benefits are enjoyed by all."
