What will I learn?
You will study three main themes: 1. Designing the built environment: Learning how the built environment is designed and constructed, how it impacts on people and communities, and how history, politics and economics affect it. 2. Creating the built environment: Developing a range of skills and knowledge needed in different industries - for example, using tools and understanding modern construction methods and materials. 3. Valuing and using the built environment: Analysing the need for good management and continuous maintenance, and understanding the importance of good design, workmanship and teamwork. The Diploma comprises several elements, all of which add together to form the whole qualification. You will have to achieve all elements in order to be awarded The Diploma, and these are: . The Principal Lines of Learning - These reflect the main subject area you are studying . Extended Project - An opportunity to undertake a substantial project in a chosen vocational area . Functional Skills - Applied numeracy and literacy and relevant use of ILT and IT . Additional/Specialist Learning - A menu of choices will be confirmed at the start of your course which will provide you with the opportunity to gain more specialist skills . Work Experience/Work-related activity - Real opportunities to experience the world of work
How will I be taught?
You will learn through an exciting programme of practical work, academic study, assignment briefs, projects, live events and live work experience linked to the industries and professions in the Construction and Built Environment sector.
How will I be assessed?
You will put together a portfolio of work, evidencing the units of the qualification, which is internally assessed and moderated as the course progresses. Three units are externally assessed.
What could I do next?
You could progress to the Advanced Diploma which will broaden your horizons and open many future options. As well as undergraduate courses in Construction and the Built Environment, you may wish to take a university course such as . Architecture . Engineering . Planning and management . Building services . Geography, ...or a wide range of other degrees. Or you could apply your newly acquired skills to gain employment in the construction and built environment industries.
