What is the course about?
The Diploma is a new qualification that is a mix of class work and hands on experience that prepares young people for further study at school or college, a job, university, or an Apprenticeship.
What is the course content?
Students will study the following:-
- Designing the built environment: Learning how the built environment is designed and constructed, how it impacts on people and communities, and how history, politics and economics affect it
- Creating the built environment: Developing a range of skills and knowledge needed in different industries - for example, using tools and understanding modern construction methods and materials
- Valuing and using the built environment: Analysing the need for good management and continuous maintenance, and understanding the importance of good design, workmanship and teamwork
How will it be taught?
There will be teaching over one extended day which will allow site visits an large projects to be developed. Some of the teaching at your own school will contribute towards the qualification including functional skills.
How will I be assessed?
To achieve a Diploma, all the required Diploma components must be passed including the three Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT. The final grade will be calculated by combining the grades for the principal learning and the project.
What can I do when I have completed the course?
Depending on your achievement you can:-
- Progress to an appropriate qualification at a local college
- Progress to a post 16 Apprenticeship with a local training provider
- Go into 6th form
