About this course

You must be at least 16 years of age, hold 4 GCSEs Grade C or above, or a GNVQ Intermediate Certificate. Mature students (over 21 years) who have appropriate work experience need not necessarily hold the above qualifications. You will also attend an interview and take an Initial Assessment.

Description
This course is designed both for those in employment and those wishing to enter the job market at a Technician level within the construction industry. It is also suitable as a progression route to Higher Education.

Course Length
1 year full-time

What will I study?
Health, safety & welfare, construction and the environment, construction technology and design, construction science and materials. There is also an opportunity to include analytical methods, planning, organisation of resources, graphical detailing, measuring, tendering and estimating processes and surveying processes.



How will I learn?
An exciting, varied and challenging approach to learning is adopted, which includes; directed research linked to projects, practical skill-based sessions, seminars, lectures and tutorials.

How will I be assessed?
A variety of means of assessment are used, including written assignments and presentations together with an integrated vocational assignment.

Where could it lead?
Progression to National Certificate in Construction, HNC (Building/Civil Engineering), Foundation Degree (Construction Management). For more mature students with relevant work experience this could lead to entry to the HNC Building programme or career enhancement within the industry in management, planning or health & safety.
