About this course

Students will be expected to have a minimum of three GCSEs at grade D and the Brickwork Level 1 Diploma. All students must attend an assessment day.

Aim This is a 1 year Intermediate Construction Award in Brickwork providing workshop training which delivers practical skills and underpinning knowledge for bricklaying. Training will take place in our state-of-the-art construction workshops and will be delivered by experienced professionals from the industry.
Content The programme consists of practical training and phase testing, assignments, coursework and two knowledge tests.
Units include:
· Handling and storing resources
· Erecting and dismantling basic working platforms
· Preparing materials for use
· Brick and block walling
· Setting out basic buildings
· Movement of loads.

Assessment methods
These will consist of individual multi-choice tests and a summative end exam which again will be multi-choice. Practical skills will be assessed on a continual basis with a final test piece set by CAA.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students will be able to progress on to an NVQ Level 2 if they are employed in the industry. If they wish to stay in full-time education learners can progress to the Advanced Construction Award in Bricklaying.

Extra information All students will be required to purchase appropriate personal protective equipment including overalls and boots. There is a £60 fee on all construction courses to cover the cost of your equipment including text books, files, pens, pencils, scale ruler, tape measure etc. to be paid at enrolment.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
