Construction Waste and Waste Management E0206
The construction industry produces around 120 million tonnes of
construction, demolition and excavation waste per year with only half of
this currently being recycled or reclaimed. Some 10% of materials sent
to landfill are brand new products, delivered to site but never actually
used. As a result construction clients and developers are increasingly
looking to set targets and requirements for waste management and to move
the industry from its current - often poor - levels of performance to
delivering best practice in waste management.
There are many drivers for change including the Site Waste Management
Plan legislation which comes into effect in Spring 2008. Effective
construction waste management can be introduced at design, construction
and operational phases of a project delivering significant environmental
and commercial benefits including:
* reduced material and disposal costs
* increased competitive differentiation
* responding to and pre-empting public policy and legislation
* improved performance against Corporate Responsibility objectives
* lower CO2 emissions
This one day course will encourage you to consider your projects
differently and will equip you with the tools and understanding to
implement waste minimisation and management strategies at all stages of
a building or structure's life cycle.
The course is highly interactive utilising case study and practical
sessions throughout the day to deliver against its objectives. The
training is focussed and immediately deployable delivering practical,
useable and effective advice for you, your projects and your clients.
As part of the extended learning of this module a CD will be included
containing a wealth of practical information, guidance and best practice
documentation, design and assessment templates, key references, further
reading and sources of additional information.
This module is part of a suite of "how to" sustainable development
courses that focus on delivering best practice advice in an effective,
understandable and useable way.
The tutor has broad experience of developing and delivering practical
solutions on a wide variety of projects for public and private clients.
A subject expert with extensive hands on knowledge, the tutor is a
consultant to a leading specialist environmental consultancy.
