This course has been created to support and nurture creative talent and is focused upon providing you with the practical skills that are lacking in the industry. Modules have been developed to tackle the gaps employers have identified in specific areas and, as such, you will create projects for local businesses from within college and in the workplace.
You will be provided with training in camera, sound, lighting, post-production and production management with particular emphasis on factual and narrative film and corporate media production. In order to qualify for this course, you will need: A Level at grade A*-C with a UCAS tariff profile of 160 points (64 points under the new tariff) (or higher) Or BTEC Extended Diploma - Level 3 at Merit grade or above in a relevant subject (students with DDM are guaranteed a place). You must be aged 18 or over. We welcome applications from mature students with appropriate experience. You will also need to provide a portfolio of work/showreel and interview successfully. All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your date for your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.. Career Path Potential careers in the industry include roles such as a researcher, scriptwriter or in the technical areas of camera operating, editing, sound, lighting and special effects. Dedicated students successfully go on to become production managers, producers, cinematographers and independent filmmakers.. What can I do if I complete this course? Successful completion of this degree will give you skills that are underpinned by a sound practical and theoretical base that will advance your career prospects. All students that successfully complete this degree (part-time or full-time) will have the opportunity to progress onto the BA (Top Up) in Contemporary Media Practice.. Duration Two years, full time / Three years, part time. Cost You don’t need cash to enrol on a course. Tuition fee loans cover university or college tuition fees and are paid direct to the university or college, by Student Finance England. They are available to all eligible students regardless of household income. The amount you pay back is dependent on how much you earn and not how much you owe and you won’t need to start paying them back until you are earning more than £21,000 per year.
